Making New Years Resolutions/Intentions

January 19, 2024 · In: Behind The Biz

Do you make resolutions or intentions for the new year? I stopped making resolutions years ago and now set more mindful resolutions/intentions for the year. In 2023 I didn’t set resolutions or intentions and I noticed the affects throughout the year. This year I wanted to make sure I set some mindful resolutions for myself things to remember through out the year. I’m sharing those here to keep myself accountable and to have a friendly reminder I can look back on.

Practice Gratitude

I’m a big believer in daily gratitude and feel like in 2023 I wasn’t as consistent as I’d like to be and wanted to spend 2024 being more intentional about practicing gratitude. When life gets crazy or when things don’t go as expected, it’s easy to focus on the negative and what didn’t work and this year I wanted to make sure I saw the good even if something doesn’t go like I hoped.

Give Myself Grace

Running a business isn’t for the faint of heart. But trying to run a business while working can also be difficult. It’s easy for me to be hard on myself if I don’t get something done or if a task I did goes wrong. I also know I can put more pressure on myself than I should. In those moments, I want to always remind myself first to Give Myself Grace and not be hard on myself if something goes wrong or it takes me longer than I think it should to get something done.

Do My Best (done is better than perfect)

As a recovering perfectionist, this one is big. There’s been countless times I’d want everything to be perfect before I took action, or if it wasn’t perfect I would start over (I know… yikes). What I want to remind myself is that sometimes you’re not going to catch a misspelling. Other times that graphic may not turn out the way you wanted and that’s ok. I’d allow my desire for everything to be perfect to paralyze me sometimes to the point I wouldn’t do what I needed to do. That’s not good and it doesn’t allow me to be grow and learn or be a beginner at something. This year, I want to remind myself especially when I’m working on something I have done before (like a new product), that it doesn’t have to be or look perfect, If I do my best that’s good.

Find Joy in Everyday

One thing I’d like to do more of in 2024 are things that bring me Joy. There’s so many things I and everyone else has to do that we don’t enjoy so why not make sure that each day I spend time doing something that I love. Most times for me, that’s candles. But, there are other things I’m interested in and I want to make more time for those activities.

Do you have any resolutions or intentions you are making this year? If you don’t have any yet don’t worry there’s plenty of time, there’s no rule that says you need to figure all this out at the start of the year. If you have an intention let me know in the comments, we can hold each other accountable 🙂

As a candlemaker, Fall/Winter is my favorite time As a candlemaker, Fall/Winter is my favorite time of year. I love all the warm and cozy scents of this season. The problem is I can’t make candles of every Fall and Winter scent that I love. After testing and making some cuts, this year, there are 5 scents. Two that have been best sellers since Sonnet started. One scent that is making a return from last year, a retired scent I’m bringing back and a new scents that has become a new favorite. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming soon at the beginning of October. Comment below which of these scents you think will your favorite.
It’s common for scents in a candle collection to It’s common for scents in a candle collection to change overtime. This year sadly I am saying goodbye to two scents They are Serenity, the coconut milk and lavender scent and Relax, the rosemary and mint scent. While I love both scents changes with my suppliers has caused me to pull these two scents from the collection.

Hi, it’s been a while since I’ve shown my face Hi, it’s been a while since I’ve shown my face here. I wanted to say Hi and that I’m still here I’ve just been knee deep in testing fall/winter scents (coming soon) testing new jars and a bunch of other candle stuff that’s kept me busy most of the Summer. Whether you’re a new or longtime follower, I’m Natasha and the woman behind Sonnet Candles. Welcome, I’m glad you’re here. I started Sonnet 3 years ago as a candle brand that creates candles that don’t cause headaches and scent your space without being overwhelming. If you have sensitivity to fragrance, these candles are perfect for you. As I said before I’ve also been preparing for Fall/Winter markets/pop ups that are right around the corner and doing a small re-brand more on all of that later. I can’t believe we’re halfway through September. I’m excited for Fall and candle season there’s a lot I can’t wait to share. Speaking of Fall, leave me a comment letting me know some of your favorite Fall and Winter Scents.

Can we talk about comparison? I had to take a litt Can we talk about comparison? I had to take a little bit of a social media break because I was slowly falling into that trap of comparison and looking at where other businesses are in relation to mine and feeling a little inadequate and I needed to take a little time to reset. While I know that all of us are running our own races but that monster of comparison sometimes is hard to fight and beat back even with all the rational thoughts to be a reminder that I’m doing what I need to do just like the other person or business is doing what they need to do. I shared this quote today as a reminder to myself and to anybody else who is feeling like they’re in the same spot trying to beat back all that stuff that comparison traps us into that where we are exactly where we’re supposed to be and what is for us is for us. Even if things don’t go our way, that doesn’t mean that we quit or think that we’ve failed. But it’s to remember that sometimes our paths may not look like everyone else’s and it’s OK and sometimes we have to go slower than others and that’s OK too. In the end where we wanna be we will get there maybe not in the timeframe that we hope but it will always be on time.
