It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I wanted to share what’s been going on behind the scenes here at Sonnet since the start of the year.
SHOP LOCAL
I started the year prepping for Sonnet to be in its first retail location at the Maker and Merchant. This is an amazing store filled with small business makers like Sonnet. Every time I’m there to restock my spot with more product, I want to buy half the store. If you’re in the Concord, NC area, visit the shop and check out Sonnet’s table too :).
Shortly after moving into the Maker and Merchant, I then moved into The Collective. This is another amazing shop that’s filled with pretty things. There are also a bunch of small businesses here too and it’s another store you can easily buy up the entire store if you’re not careful. I moved out of my spot in June. Hopefully I’ll be able to be back in the Collective in the Fall. I’ll keep you posted.
SPRING MARKETS
Sonnet had its first market of the year in March. It’s Matthews Mainline hosted by Handcrafted Market CLT. There was a lot of rain the week leading up to this event and luckily by the day of the Market there was a little rain in the morning but the rest of the day was bright and sunny. I debuted Spring/Summer scents and had my OG scents too. I also debuted a couple new perfume oils too. This market was a success and I got to see a few familiar faces which is always fun.
The next market was in April. The Nebel’s Alley Night Market is one of my favorite markets because it’s a lot of fun and the energy of the night is great. I stayed busy at this pop up which was great and got to meet a lot of new people and a few familiar faces said hello. It was a great night and a lot of fun. Hopefully I’ll be back at Nebel’s in the Fall.
SUMMER BREAK
Once the Summer heat kicks in, being outside and selling candles isn’t a good combination. While I’ve sold candles on days when it’s warm. That heat and humidity is no match for anyone especially a candle so for the Summer, Sonnet takes a break. Summer break means I am working. Here’s a few things I’m working on right now.
- Fall/Winter Collection Testing. I am currently testing 6 scents for Fall and Winter. There are a couple popular favorites plus a few new scents that I’m excited to share. Can you believe that a lot of Candle Companies launch their Fall collection in late August? Well, I’ll be launching the Fall/Winter collection hopefully in September.
- Sonnet Rebranding. When I started Sonnet, I didn’t really have a brand. I had a cohesive visual design that looks great but there wasn’t much to back it up and I didn’t like that. After learning the jars I’ve been using will be discontinued, it kicked of the search me for a new jar and forced me to focus in on Sonnet’s brand. Who is Sonnet? What is this company about? To answer those questions, I used Saffron Avenue’s Brand Style Guide to help me figure it out. This guide has been helpful in helping me answer those questions and do a deeper dive into who I want Sonnet to be. If you’re a small business and you’re on a budget and can’t hire a brand designer, this guide is a helpful alternative. I’m still working on a few aspects of the brand and will share more later. I’ve already shared updated logos and now I want to share my color palette. I’m in love!
- Two new Collections are Coming Soon! Yep, I’ve also been working on two new collections. Once is an idea I’ve had for about a year and a half but just didn’t have time to work on it. The other is a new idea that I’m also excited about. I’ll have more on these collections soon. Right now I’m in the thick of making bringing these collections to reality.
- Etsy re-launch (also coming soon). I know a lot of people have their opinions about Etsy but as someone who had an Etsy store a long time ago, it’s a great marketplace. I’m working on re-opening Sonnet’s Etsy shop and also another shop tied to one of the new collections that’s coming soon. Right now I’m working on building both shops.
